Well my trip to Colorado is in the books. Steve, Charles and I have been planning this trip since March and I never thought it was going to get here. Steve got a couple days head start on us so Cdawg and I were chomping at the bit to get going. I met him in Flagstaff at 4:30am and we were on the road before 5am. It was a uneventful 10 hour drive. We fished for a few hours that afternoon and all hooked a few fish on the Roaring Fork. I am not going to go into a ton of detail on each days fishing. All I can say is the fishing was decent, not great. The highlight of the trip for me was the day Charles and I hit Jaffe Park on the Fork. Big, fast water and really tough to fish. I only landed 2 fish in about 6 hours, landed a donkey of a 17 incher that fought as hard as any fish I have ever caught, lost a really nice 16″ brown and caught a spunky 12″ brown. Charles did about the same. Another highlight was the last 40 minutes of our trip. I had always heard about Green Drakes but thought they were like unicorns and mermaids, well not anymore. We were fishing the Fork and we saw a few come off, I tied one of just to say I did and missed two blowups in a row. Then proceeded to catch 6 in a row until I broke off and it was too dark to fish anymore. I guess GD’s do really exist.
The trip was a blast, hotter than heck, by Colorado standards. It was fun fishing with two really good sticks and we had a total blast. Sounds like we were about a week too early, but that does not matter to me. That area will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you Steve and Charles for a fantastic trip.
